Teacher Binds Two Black Students With Tape

I read in the news today that a white social studies teacher in White Plains New York tied and bound the wrists and ankles of two black students with tape, and had them crawl underneath a desk to demonstrate what happened when the African captives were taken to America in slave ships.

I guess the reason the teacher had gone to such an extreme is because they had a faculty meeting about teaching outside the box and wanted the teachers to use different tools and styles of teaching to keep the children engaged and learning. But this teacher took it too far. When they say some children learn better with hands on activities, they don't expect you to tie them up and throw them under their desks.
Here is part of the article, By JIM FITZGERALD, Associated Press Writer Jim Fitzgerald, Associated Press Writer – Fri Dec 5, 6:27 pm ET

Aldridge said he feared that the teacher still "didn't get it" after their meeting. He said the teacher apologized "because Gabrielle was upset, not because she admitted she did something wrong."

The teacher was not fired, they actually transferred the upset student to another class for the rest of the year. But the scary part is that the teacher only apologized only because the student was upset not because she felt that she had done something inappropriate. It's pretty sickening that we have people like this teaching our children. The student who was very upset was too embarrassed to return to school and her mother is infuriated, she has not decided yet if she is going to press charges or file a law suit.
